Zara the fashion queen! As she celebrates another birthday, how the royal’s style continues to reach new heights – from a penchant for colour to radiant evening wear

Must read

Zara Tindall has firmly established herself as a style icon within the royal sphere – and her fashion sense is still flourishing as she celebrates another birthday.

Over the past year, the royal has displayed a series of flawless ensembles, featuring impeccably tailored coats, chic trouser suits and glamorous dresses.

Gone are the previously cluttered details and hastily assembled outfits, replaced instead by a meticulously curated wardrobe.

On her 43rd birthday, we take a retrospective look at Zara’s most impressive outfits to date.

Penchant for colour

Zara’s penchant for colour has been particularly evident of late

Zara’s penchant for colour was particularly evident when she attended the Easter Mattins service at Windsor Castle last year.

The royal picked a bright fuchsia dress by Jane Atelier, accessorised with a coveted Strathberry bag, Juliette Botterill hat and Emmy London heels.

Her ‘Payton’ dress, with its figure-skimming silhouette and decorative buttons, was the perfect choice for the joyous occasion.

Moreover, the audacious hue accentuated her radiant complexion.

The following month, Zara showcased her sartorial prowess at the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

She selected a charming pastel blue ensemble, featuring a custom-made coat dress by Laura Green.

Zara is a loyal customer of the British designer, having sported several pieces over the years.

One again, she turned to her favourite accessory brands – Juliette Botterill, Strathberry and Emmy London – to complete this look.

It was one of Zara’s finest ensembles to date.

The daughter of Princess Anne is no stranger to shining brightly under the stars, as her previous stunning evening ensembles reveal.

All three looks featured dresses by Australian designer Rebecca Vallance.

Attending the brand’s Christmas launch at Harrods, Zara stunned in the ‘Eva’ pearl-trimmed black dress.

The sophisticated design also incorporated puff sleeves and a sultry cut-out back.

The royal added a pair of simple black court shoes and complementary pearl drop earrings.

Zara looked equally radiant in a chic black dress at The Anti-Slavery Collective’s inaugural winter gala, hosted by Princess Eugenie, in November.

She opted for a glamorous shirt dress with a dramatic skirt and floral jacquard effect.

The wide sash belt highlighted her waist, while the voluminous sleeves added a touch of elegance and width to her shoulders.

In January, she reached for another dress from the label.

Similarly, it boasted puff sleeves and embellishment – this time in the form of glinting gold sequins.

She swept her blonde tresses up and clasped a clutch bag by Olga Berg.

Sydney-based designer Leo Lin seems to have secured a special place in the royal’s wardrobe, as she has been seen wearing his creations numerous times

Zara’s frequent travels to Australia with her husband Mike Tindall have introduced her to several Down Under brands.

She debuted an intricate ivory lace dress by Scanlon Theodore on Ladies Day at Royal Ascot 2023.

The label prides itself in creating every design in-house at its studio in Melbourne.

Zara’s dress proved to be effortlessly flattering, particularly when paired with an Aspinal of London bag and a saucer hat, adorned with silk wild flowers, by Emily London.

Sydney-based designer Leo Lin seems to have secured a special place in the royal’s wardrobe too, as she has been seen wearing his creations numerous times.

Most notably, she donned a striking shirt dress by Lin to the Magic Millions Races on the Gold Coast in January.

The charming fit-and-flare design featured watercolour florals in shades of orange and azure.

However, Zara remains largely loyal to British brands and frequently opts for bespoke dresses by Laura Green, which are known for their impeccable fit.

Sophisticated trouser suits

Zara feels right at home at a racecourse.

After all, she is an award-winning equestrian, who clinched a silver medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Country style seems to play a role in shaping her sartorial choices, too.

On two separate occasions, the royal has worn sophisticated suits from Veronica Beard.

In March, she opted for a navy pinstripe two-piece, enhanced by a maroon Cefinn blouse and a matching pillbox hat by Sarah Cant.

Adding a distinctive Aspinal of London tote and fashion-forward velvet boots by Fairfax & Favor, she achieved a striking ensemble.

The rich yet understated colour scheme was both tasteful and flattering.

Last year, Zara selected an admiral blue houndstooth wool suit by the American brand.

It incorporated wide-legged trousers – a style that compliments the royal – and a notch neck jacket.

She completed the look with suede boots by LK Bennett and a quilted Aspinal of London bag.

Impeccable outerwear

Zara is highly skilled when it comes to selecting her outerwear.

She frequently wears A-line shapes with cinched waists as they complement her beautifully.

A fine example is her burgundy Finchley coat by The Fold, a design also owned by Queen Mary of Denmark and Pippa Middleton.

The classic wrapover silhouette is crafted from an Italian wool mix, featuring a collarless neckline and pleat detailing.

Zara elevated the hue by pairing it with an Aspinal of London bag in a matching shade.

She added chocolate brown boots by Fairfax & Favor and a navy Somerset Millinery fedora, resulting in yet another winning colour palette.

On a separate outing, she teamed these knee-length boots with a well-cut Prince of Wales check coat by LK Bennett.

Eye-catching but not ostentatious, the tasteful design boasted gilt buttons and a faux fur collar and cuffs.

In March, Zara displayed her refined sensibility, selecting a Italian wool-blend caped coat from Karen Millen.

She allowed her outerwear to take centre stage, harmonising it with a dark-toned Fairfax & Favor bag and Stuart Weitzman’s renowned ‘Highland’ boots.

A Victoria Charles veiled teardrop headpiece, with a sizeable quill, completed this graceful look.

Breezy stripes

While Zara certainly knows how to dress up for an event, her off-duty style is equally impressive.

She particularly seems to recognise the versatility of a striped shirt dress.

Indeed, the royal has been spotted wearing vertical stripes on several occasions, which comes as no surprise as they are well-known for their ability to elongate the figure.

Most recently, she opted for a Rebecca Vallance creation, while attending an event in the designer’s native Australia.

Exemplifying her style equilibrium, Zara combined her breezy mid-length dress with a Sarah Curtis fedora, Dune espadrille wedges, Bulgari sunglasses and an Aspinal of London bag.

At the Wimbledon Championships 2023, she chose another understated dress by ME+EM, a British label also favoured by Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

Striking the perfect balance between elegance and practicality, she added Saint Laurent wedges and lashings of jewellery from Astley Clarke.
